Beautiful day to arrive at the lake. Still a little snow on the mountain which always looks so good at the end of the gorgeous blue water. It wasn't too busy thank goodness, so we were able to park by the water and have lunch before going to the i-site to decide what we would do for the next day or so. One of the main reasons for stopping was to catch up on an old friend who had just been widowed and as luck would have it, the caravan park (Great Lakes Holiday Park) was very close to her home. We got ourselves settled & then made arrangements to visit her that afternoon. Lovely to catch up. Spent the late afternoon visiting Acacia Bay which is a gorgeous little place for a swim or kayaking etc. Lots of nice shady trees which was a bonus as it was 29deg. Next day we went to the big Taupo Market, very useful for buying a few Xmas prezzies. In the afternoon we attempted to cycle a track to Huka Falls, which turned out to be quite a mission. It was so hot & the track not as good as we had hoped, but we did about 2/3's then explored a lovely park, and also the botanical gardens. Really enjoyed that.
